How To Choose The Color Of Custom Fishing Lures
In the process of serving our customers, we’ve noticed that custom lure customers, especially those new to the industry, sometimes struggle with choosing the right color for their lures and need our advice. Thank you so much for your trust and inquiries. Here, I’ve compiled some notes and summaries based on the reflections of our customers from different countries when faced with this issue. I hope this will be helpful.
1. The color of the lure can be customized according to the water quality
A If your customers’ fishing spots are mostly in clear waters,
Prioritize colors that mimic the natural appearance of small fish, shrimp, or insects, such as silver, white, blue, green, or brown. This is because natural colors blend in better in high-visibility waters, and since fish primarily rely on vision for predation, they can help lower their alertness.
B If your market is mostly turbid or colored waters
Consider bright or dark colors that create a strong contrast and are more visible to fish. For example, bright colors like chartreuse, pink, bright red, and orange can make your lure stand out in murky water, attracting target fish to strike and feed.
Darker colors include black and dark blue, which can create clear silhouettes and are particularly effective in murky water with low light levels.
Why choose bright or dark colors? Because when visibility is low, fish rely more on the lateral line to detect vibrations and contrast. Bright colors provide visual impact, while dark colors create a clear outline, making them easier for fish to detect.
C If the waters in your market are between clear and turbid (moderate turbidity).
Consider a mix of natural and vibrant colors. For example, try lures with glitter or use patterns like fire-tiger that incorporate both bright and dark colors.

2. Choose according to your local weather
A, if the weather is mostly clear and sunny.
Consider using natural, light-colored, or shiny lures. Colors like silver, gold, white, and light blue effectively reflect sunlight, mimicking the reflective scales of prey. Natural-colored lures appear more realistic in well-lit environments, while shiny lures create an eye-catching flash that attracts predatory fish.
B,If there are more days with overcast weather or insufficient lighting
Consider using bright or dark lures. For example, bright colors like fluorescent or white can compensate for low light levels and improve visibility. Dark colors like black, dark blue, and purple create a sharp contrast against a gloomy sky, making them more visible to target fish.

3. If you’re unsure, it’s a good idea to observe what natural baitfish (such as minnows and tadpoles) are available near your local fishing spot. It’s a good idea to customize the color of your lure based on their color.
For customers just starting out, choosing one or two of our custom colors, natural, bright, or dark, is sufficient to meet most needs. Our minimum order quantity for custom lures is generally 200 pieces per color, a quantity we consider in consideration of our customers’ financial and marketing needs.
So, in summary, the color of the customized bait can be selected according to the water quality, weather, and the color of the local fish.
